Earthquake in San Francisco Bay Area

By Lawrence

A 6.0 earthquake hit San Francisco earlier this morning.

As I posted last year about sunspot and earthquake, the number of earthquakes and magnitude of them is expected to rise.

So far, the uptick in number of earthquakes greater than magnitude of 5.0 is the longest chain in recorded history.

Historically, as long as there is no earthquake of magnitude greater than 5.0 happening within a 2 weeks window, the chain would be broken and overall seismic activities will die down. However, since end of last year, there has been a continuous chain of earthquakes. Not something good to see for anyone living in the Ring of Fire region or any other earthquake-bound zone.

Tell me about it……4 years ago the city I was living in was pretty much destroyed due to a quake. Also, an earthquake is not a one and done event. After a large quake you get hundreds and hundreds of heavily noticeable aftershocks. I stayed in that same city for 2 years before finally moving. The aftershock count at my time of departure was 12,400. It’s like living in a warzone getting constant artillery fire at any time of the day. Very nerve wracking and heavily life affecting stuff.

The earthquake woke me up and it lasted a good ~20-30 secs. Fortunately there were no damage to my house or neighborhood. We live just 70 miles south of where the earthquake was centered.

Natural disasters are always scary. They really humble us, humans, to remember how fragile life can be.
